Let’s get your musical livestreaming.

It’s simple.
We promise.

The world of live musical theatre is changing, and livestreaming is a big part of that! Throughout the pandemic, we all saw our fair share of zoom theatre (what a time to be alive!), but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about live capturing and broadcasting a show that’s happening in person, with a real live audience and streaming it out to a much wider audience of paying guests. These could be Grandmas and Aunties from far away, new moms who can’t make it to the show in person but really want to see their niece shine, or someone who is feeling under the weather but doesn’t want to miss the moment. Having an option for EVERY potential audience member to see your show is the new way!

Stream Stage, co-founded by myself Kayla and my husband Daniel, was born in the beginning of the pandemic when a show we were working on with Bravo in Toronto was about to get the axe because we couldn’t physically meet. We got super creative, cried some tears, then got to work on what would become Canada’s first ever LIVE, zoom musical. It was wild! Over the years since then, we have continued to learn and grow our knowledge in the livestreaming and videography world, but we are always connected to those roots of streaming live musical theatre, especially with young actors.

You might be thinking, but what about the rights? Isn’t that expensive or a big ordeal to get the streaming rights? You will be surprised at how simple and easy it can be to secure the rights for your show. First things first, check the long list of shows with streaming rights available at mtishows.com/streaming, then email us and set up a discovery call and we’ll get started on the “how” of it all and take that off your mind. Ticketing is even simple, it’s handled through showtix4u, and once you’re set up with them, they send out the private links, handle tickets, and even the percentages owed in the rights agreements.

Stream Stage is here to handle the “How”. We love working with community organizations, youth theatre, churches, synagogues, and more to help get your message to go even further. You might not realize it, but providing a livestream can open another stream of income for your organization. We also provide you with a high quality video capture of your show! Way better than a normal archival, our video capture will even provide you with tons of promotional material to use in future.

Videography and livestreaming/broadcasting are ways you can take your shows and your organization into the future. We all know the power of high quality video, just look at social media. Tik Tok and instagram are pushing us to watch more and more video content and the old cell phone videos are not cutting it anymore. By booking a livestream with Stream Stage you can access your whole show in 4K, high definition video for promotional usage!

Let Stream Stage help take your shows LIVE. We’d love to jump on a zoom call and learn more about your organization and your show. Don’t let the internet/livestreaming/broadcasting scare you, we promise, we’ll make it easy, simple, cost-effective, and SUPER worth it!

So you think you can Livestream?

I hope you just sang that in your head like the “So You Think You Can Dance” theme song, if not, please do that and return here.

Are you thinking of livestreaming your wedding? Are you spending hours searching “How to Livestream”, thinking, it can’t be that hard if all those teenagers are doing it on Twitch, right? Are you thinking of streaming through platforms like Facebook or Youtube but worried about copyright issues and getting you livestream taken down during your wedding?

I’m Kayla, from StreamStage.live, and I feel I have a unique position to talk about the subject as the wife of the Head Technologist around here, Dan. I had 0.0 knowledge of what this whole livstreaming thing was about when we started. I would ask questions like, “why do we even need to line in the sound?”, “can’t we just use my computer camera?”. Well, time and time again, we would go live from our house (oo lockdowns, remember?), and when people would see our concert footage they would say, “WOW HOW did you get the sound so amazing?”, or “Holy moly the picture is stunning how did you do that?”. So, it was worth it. All the experimenting, all the striving for a little bit better.

Over the years, I have sat through hours of explanation about how the systems work. Ask me about capture cards, bit rates, and USB v. HDMI connections and I can hold my own (maybe?). But the point is, this is a VERY complex thing we’re doing when we stream. We factor in visual capture, audio, and then everyone’s favourite fickle mistress, internet. We mix them all together, make sure they’re in sync, and send them out. When there’s an issue, it becomes a came of snakes and ladders crawling around in cables, checking for software issues, and inevitably coming back to the first thing you checked to discover a problem that’s appeared.

Dan is truly the BEST in the business at creative, effective, and efficient problem solving. And, my friends, THAT is what you need when you’re thinking of doing a livestream. Because here’s the thing, it is literally never going to be perfect. It’s a living breathing thing that needs constant attention, care, and expert eyes on it to keep it going. While you might be tempted to try it on your own, make sure you’re taking these things into consideration before embarking:

  • Are my camera (s) providing beautiful picture and great angles that don't miss a moment?

  • Are my microphone (s) capturing clear audio of the speakers and room in strategic spots?

  • Do I have a stable internet connection and backups ready to go?

And if that seems like, NO PLEASE, we suggest hiring a professional. You wouldn't let your Auntie Joan take your event pictures on her iPhone, you’d hire a professional! Book a free discovery call with StreamStage.live today to chat about your event or wedding. Are you in Ontario and looking for a professional to livestream your wedding? You’ve come to the right place.
